Tim Morris

Head Coach

Tim Morris begins his 28th season as the head football coach at Melrose High School and his 39th season as a Melrose High School football coach.  Coach Morris is the only Melrose native to have played for MHS and come back to lead the team as head coach.

Over his 37 years as a Melrose football coach, Tim has been the recipient of numerous accolades and awards including several Boston Globe Coach of the Year, Middlesex Coach of the Year, Patriot Coach of the Week awards and, in 2019, was inducted into the   Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association (MHSFCA) Hall of Fame.

In addition to football, Coach Morris is the head coach of the boys' track team at Melrose High School.  He earned his Master's Degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts and is a teacher at Melrose High School.  Coach Morris resides in Melrose with his wife Maria.  Their three sons Michael Sean, and Tim all attended Melrose High School

Jim Kent, Assistant Coach

Running Backs & Defensive Line

Coach Kent returns for his 25th year of coaching with the Red Raiders.  He began his coaching career at Boston State and later served as the Head Cach at UMASS Boston.  Coach Kent is a retired probation officer in Boston and lives in Melrose with his wife Peggy.  All 5 of Coach Kent's sons played football at Melrose High School.

Trevor Rudolph, Assistant Coach

Defensive Line & Special Teams

Coach Rudolph returns for his 21st season with the Red Raider Staff.  He is a 1995 graduate of Melrose High School where, as a player for Melrose High School, he earned All-League honors at both linebacker and fullback.  Coach Rudolph continued his football career at the collegiate level at both Curry College and U-MASS Boston.

Wayne Pandolph, Assistant Coach

Offensive Coordinator

Coach Pandolf is a 1990 graduate of Woburn High School where he ws a 3 sport athlete: football, basketball and baseball.  He went on to play football at Tufts University and graduated with and Engineering degree. Prior joining Melrose, he coached in both Woburn and Cambridge..  Coach Rudolph lives in Westwood and has 4 children: Connor, Kayla, Courtney and Anthony.

Arthur Irzyk, Assistant Coach

Coach Irzyk returns to the Melrose Red Raiders for his 3rd season consecutive season and 23rd overall. Coach Irzyk spent 15 years coaching on the North Shore including St. Mary's of Lynn and Winthrop. From 1984-2004 he coached at MHS under Coach Bruce MacPherson and Coach Morris.

Matt Montani, Assistant Coach

Coach Montani is a graduate of Melrose High School Class of 2008.  and a member of the 2007 Middlesex League Champion team where he earned League All-Star honors.  Additionally, he was captain of both the basketball and baseball teams his senior year.  He graduated from Assumption College in 2012 and currently works as a Physical Education teacher in the Melrose Public Schools.

Paul Capaldo Assistant Coach

Coach Capaldo returns for his 6th year with the Red Raiders.  He is a 2009 graduate of MHS and and earned Middlesex League All Star honors as a defensive lineman during his time on the football team. Coach Capaldo continued playing at Plymouth State University and, prior to coaching in Melrose, spent 3 years coaching at the collegiate level: Endicott College as a Running Backs Coach and Castleton University as a Quarterbacks Coach. He teaches Physical and Health Education in Melrose at the Lincoln School.

John Babula, Assistant Coach

Coach Babula, a 2012 graduate of Melrose High School, is entering his 5th season on the satff.  Before joining Melrose, Jon coached on the MVMMS Football team.  As a player at Melrose High, Jon played guard and linebacker.  He graduate from Salem State University in 2016 and is currently working on his M.Ed. at Salem State.  Coach Babula is a history teacher in the Revere Public Schools

Mike Sasso, Assistant Coach

Coach Sasso is a 2006 graduate of Melrose High School, where he played linebacker for the Red Raiders.  He went on to play safety at Worcester State University for 4 seasons.  After coaching the MVMMS for 5 seasons he joined the Varsity staff in 2015.  Coach Sasso works for the Melrose DPW.

Rich Curran Assistant Coach

Coach Curran is a 1994 graduate of Stoneham High School.  Hew was a 3-sport athlete in football, basketball and baseball.  Before coaching with Melrose, he was an assistant coach with the Stoneham High School football team for 4 years.  Coach Curran is employed with the Melrose DPW.

Spenser Walsh, Assistant Coach

Coach Walsh is a 2012 Melrose High School graduate where he was a 3-sport captain Track Wrestling and Football where he was a Running Back, Linebacker, and Middlesex League All-Star.  Coach Walsh was Captain of the Endicott College football team where he a 3-time All-Conference Running Back.
